California is on the forefront of getting these polluting gas tools off the streets, so with rising regulations Jorge’s crew switched to battery-powered equipment. They tested their options and ultimately selected Greenworks.
“We demoed a lot of different companies,” Jorge says. “And when I got on this one, I was like, whoa—this one has a lot of torque, a lot of more power... And you can't feel it because it's so quiet.”
Quiet was one of their main goals. Working in noise-restricted areas means that crews might have to start their day late or cut off early. Now, teachers can’t even tell if his mower is running. They also appreciate the difference in smell; Jorge says, “I was at Carver Elementary yesterday, and one of the teachers came out. She goes, ‘Oh my God, I can't even smell the gas anymore.”
Now, Jorge’s client properties are happy to see his crews coming, and he’s happy to be skipping trips to the gas pump. In addition to saving his crews time, Jorge can already see the financial advantage of battery power over time. His crews are starting earlier, working through class, and equipped with enough battery runtime to work three schools a day, every day.
“We took so much time,” he says, “Filling up again and again. Now, ever since we switched to Greenworks, I haven't had a problem… we're saving so much time by not going to the gas pump, and I'm pretty sure the district is saving a whole lot of money.”
There’s no disputing that battery-powered equipment is cleaner, greener, and quieter, and many property owners will appreciate these perks. But at the end of the day—for a commercial landscape crew with a workload like Jorge’s—performance is king. Runtime and power are two essential factors, and in these areas, Greenworks delivers. “I wasn't really a believer in battery operated,” Jorge says. “But once I tried this, it's like you fall in love with it. You don't want to go back to gas.” Plus, at the end of the day, Jorge appreciates going home smelling like fresh-cut grass instead of gasoline fumes—and his wife appreciates it too. “The wife's like, ‘Stay, stay outside. Keep your clothes outside.’ Right?” he says. “And we don't have that problem now.
His final message for other landscapers? “You guys got to just try it out… see if you like it like I do.”
