Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it! I've used a few different corded electric saws, but this is my first cordless. I am impressed. As other reviewers have mentioned, it goes through batteries very quickly, but it has power to spare. It chewed through a 14"+ log I had as well as my Stihl gas saw, and none of the smell or mess of a gas engine. I actually ordered more batteries and a second charger today which will make this saw much more useful. If you have a modest amount of wood to cut and want to do away with gas, this is a viable option (as long as you don't skimp on batteries).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth a Look Tougher than I expected! I wouldn’t turn lumberjack with this thing by any means, but as long as you have a couple-four batteries laying around; you can tackle a pretty good backyard job. I hammered through 20+ inch hard woods with this thing and it was great. I think the key is: sharp chain = good battery life. Honestly, I was surprised at how this held out and performed. Huge jobs, I’d stay with gas for added power, but this thing can hang! No fuel, just chain oil, and no loud sound is an easy plus. It’s sort of weird when you take your finger off the trigger the saw just stops and no loud idle, sputter, or smoke. Wave of the future I gather. Still not par with gas, but it’s 2/3rds there. Great back up. I loved using it. Recommend for fussy covenant neighborhoods or when quiet is necessary. Does a good job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Viable alternative to gas I put this on my lawn route in the beginning of summer. It' cut a few thousand feet of tree with no problems. Will out perform Echo of Sthil comparable brands from my own personal experience with them, without the noise or smell. You can actually hear the wood being cut. Certainly avoids getting into a saw fight when you can hear if your cutting or not. Draw backs: Slightly heavier than comparable gas saws. Not water resistant. Don't leave it in the rain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not impressed First one broke within minutes of using it and was exchanged at the closest dealer an hour away. After a few days of use there's some glaring problems. Yes, the saw is powerful enough to cut 18"+ diameter logs, the problem is either the tool or battery overheat very quickly which means repeatedly having to wait to make cuts. With continuous use that drains the battery it makes it too hot to charge so even if you have an extra battery you will be done with the second battery's charge before the first one is cool enough to start charging. I've already got $1000 into the tool, charger and 2 batteries, I won't be spending more money to add additional batteries for a saw that isn't close to being useful for more than a few minutes at a time. It's fine for hobby guys and the weekend warrior, however adding the 'commercial' to greenworks commercial is misleading. The benefits of the saw don't make up for the limitations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fastest cutting battery chainsaw I know of! Cuts really fast! I’ve been using it for a wile and like it but greenworks needs to update the battery with better cells or something an it would be a beast. The battery over heats at two bars and takes along time to cool off. An the batteries are expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it a tad bit heavier than expected but the on demand power is there cuts beautifully and chain adjust is improved over a standard saw.

Why isn’t the GL 500 battery recommend for this saw?

Asked by: Beau
The GL 400BT weighs the same as the GL 500. The answer from GW commercial support doesn’t make sense since both batteries weigh the same.

The parts guide for this saw says that the bar is item no. 311001080A, length 18". But when I look that bar up on the internet, various websites say that this bar number is actually 16". Which is it?
